Venise sauvée des eaux

A glance at the “Champaka News” of December 1994 tells us that “Bernard Yslaire is working on “Sambre 4.” Alongside work on his popular series, Yslaire has always taken advantage of opportunities held out by the world of image publishing, inviting him to give shape, step by step, to new worlds: “les Anges” and “Les amants.” With “Venise sauvée des eaux” he steers the collection in the direction of his “Univers de l’Ange”, a remarkable concept that heralds an album that will, no doubt, be his magnum opus. “Venise sauvée des eaux” is the warning squall that suggests the coming hurricane in the world of intelligent bande dessinée. For his his two characters, torn between the heavens and the threatening depths, the quest for the sublime simply had to unfold in this Venetian lagoon.
