Plus ne m'est rien

Plus ne m'est rien

This image shares the atypical title of the first “Sambre” album: “Plus ne m’est rien.” “After I had come up with the name “Sambre”, I suggested to Balac that the album title should be a phrase” confides Yslaire. “This longer element would counterbalance the short title of the series. We were
searching for a long time. Balac wanted something mysterious, something that would not give up all its meaning immediately. He wanted it to suggest several possible meanings to the reader. That’s what had pleased him in the name “Sambre.” For that reason, we rejected words that were too descriptive, discounting them in favour of something more ambiguous. He found this particular phrase in some correspondence between Alfred de Musset
and George Sand. Many people misunderstand its meaning. Musset cannot imagine living more fully than he has in his life with George Sand. The use of “plus” does not suggest an absence – that she’s no longer there – but an absolute. The phrase has the ring of a motto about it, which made it
perfect for our purpose. It’s a very good example of Balac’s
effectiveness.”
