Golfe de Guinée

Golfe de Guinée

“No man can have every woman in the world, but it is his solemn obligation to try.” The words of his own invented Brazilian proverb were polished through constant use, and now they were as apt as ever, as he watched the scene unfold before him. The pirogues had been beached high on the sand. His bottle was almost empty. The other men were long gone. She would soon emerge from the water and he, solitary figure on this patch of the Guinea coast, would again be faced with his onerous obligations. Everything converged: the time, the place and the emerging object of desire.
