With this print, Champaka and Yslaire present a second variation on a celebrated scene. “The approach to the first screen-print was a mistake” explains the author of “Sambre.”. “The tonal boundaries between black and the darkest grey remained too obvious, as indeed they are in the album. With this new approach to the application of colour, it regains a touch of mystery.” For Yslaire, without wishing to resort to cliché, drawing a love-scene is a laying bare of the self. “You inevitably call upon your own experiences. There’s something slightly indecent about it. There’s something quite uplifting about working on the boundary between love and death. I felt the need to convey the tenderness of flesh in contrast with the coldness of stone.” Excerpt from Champaka News n° 3 - December 1993
