The creator of “Sambre” has a penchant for scenes of shipwreck. Here, he draws a scene that might exist only as an after-death vision, but which is not destined to take place. Bernard dies on the barricades before Julie takes to the ocean wave for her final destination in the penal colonies of French Guyana. It is a scene of great romantic intensity that is unlikely to feature in the albums of the saga.
