Tonton Placide

Tonton Placide

A precious moment of nostalgia is provided by this screen-print, the first dedicated to Benôit Brisefer, Peyo’s wonderful creation. The series prompted the creator of “Johan et Pirlouit” to call on his preferred collaborators; Will and Goss were first, followed by Walthéry. The creator of “Natacha” gave the “Benôit Brisefer” series its most striking albums. The fourth volume, “Tonton Placide” is one of the best albums of the “Walthéry period.” Peyo was responsible for the composition of the image, as indeed he was for the cover image of all the other albums in the series. François Walthéry, who was then at the height of his “pre-Natacha” artistic powers, took charge of the line work and the inking. All in all, a vivid composition that fully merits the care taken by Champaka in publishing it as a screen-print.
