Tillieux’s widely appreciated sense of comedy animates his drawings, from the madcap humour of Libellule to the gaffes of Inspector Crouton. It can be easy to overlook his consummate mastery of black and white illustration, which has a style reminiscent of a particularly American tradition. This superb image, taken from the album “Les cargos du Crépuscule” pays deserved homage to his art.
