Le mystère des profondeurs

Le mystère des profondeurs

The renowned cover illustrations of the Adèle Blanc-Sec albums are to be printed (in chronological order) in a format that will best compliment Tardi’s graphic talents. This screenprint series will render homage to the artist who was (along with Jacobs) one of the earliest bande dessinée artists to embrace the possibilities of the screenprint. The publication of “Adèle et la bête” introduces the series, which will continue to grow every year with the publication of two prints annually. Connoisseurs should perhaps reserve a considerable amount of wall space to accommodate the many masterpieces of this collection.

“The covers” explains Tardi in the booklet dedicated to the collection, “are created before the book is finished, so one is obliged to think ahead. I could easily have taken a situation from the beginning of the book, but in my case the story usually finishes with all the characters being brought together at the end. Thus we see Adèle, but also some characters that will not be involved in the conclusion of the story. They will not be among those who explore the depths. That’s not important; they’re still among the main characters. And let’s not forget limules, those monsters that, for once, are not a product of the imagination…”
