François Schuiten has just played a part in the drama of “Paris au XXème siècle”, Jules Verne’s unpublished manuscript. In addition to the cover illustration, the story has two framing images that announce its beginning and end. Champaka has the pleasure of publishing, as a screenprint, the winter-themed image that marks the story’s end. “My main concern”, says Schuiten, “was to decide if I could approach the work as an illustrator contemporaneous with Jules Verne, or if I could allow myself to take a view of the project that would embrace my experiences as an author of BD. Strange as it may seem, “L’enfant penché”, the story I was working on for [to be confirmed], already had moments that were very “Vernean” in nature. In that sense, the images for “Paris au XXème siècle” actually came to me very easily.”
