La Modèle 1

La Modèle 1

No one could have been better placed to record the elites of the ancien régime at play than was the artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard, who moved with ease among the beautiful people, satisfying their desire for veiled eroticism. His paintings were unashamedly indulgent, exuberant, hedonistic and mildly naughty, suggesting intimacy and flirting on the outskirts of vulgarity. A great seducer, he worked his charm on Milo Manara, who pays tribute to him in the volume “La Modèle.”
