Loustal and Champaka have together specialized in images drawn from Africa. “Une party chez l’Arumbaya” illustrated a very select party where the figure of the Arumbaya fetish welcomed close friends from Africa and Oceania. “Golfe de Guinée” basks in the calm of a beach washed by the Atlantic. Pirogues; a yellow Beetle convertible; a woman bathing in the perfect blue waters; a lone figure savouring the local beer; all these elements combined to create an artfully composed tableau. Taking as his inspiration the title of a Mano Negra song, Loustal creates a striking image filled with percussive rhythms, trademark jungle animals and mesmerising light.
