The relationship between artist and model is one of the enduring themes of painting. If it can be said that, in a certain sense, photography has triumphed over painting over the course of the last two centuries, it can also be said that it is less adept at exploring this complex relationship. It required an artist of Loustal’s stature to convey, with panache, the relationship between the photographer and his models!
