Le long voyage de Léna

Le long voyage de Léna

The launch of “Le long voyage de Léna” is the publishing event of September 2006, and its impact is most understandable given that the Christin-Juillard duo have, on this occasion, created an album that is at once powerful, sensitive and nuanced in its insights on the world it conveys. André Juillard has surpassed himself in creating artwork that lives and breathes through his mastery of directly applied colour. Confronted with this achievement, Champaka has chosen to exceed the standards of the usual special edition, with its customary large-format presentation in black and white. For this de-luxe special edition, the plates are colour-printed in a generous format that complements the artwork’s magnificence of line and delicacy of tone. In addition to the fifty-four plates that recount the story, the book includes eight pages of pencil sketches; the difference between such sketches reproduced by the four-colour process and in black and white must be seen to be believed. To further mark this distinguished publication, the artist has created a new cover illustration.
