Quick Super

Quick Super

The “Quick Hyper Super” saloon – to give it its full title – that is here being put through its paces by Spirou and Fantasio is one of Franquin’s original creations (binding n° 54 of the “Spirou” journal). Its stylish lines are inspired by the big American cars of 1955/56 and, more particularly, by the 1956 Buick. This image is a perfect metaphor for the concept of progress that was typical of the time: the big strong American – packing a 190 h.p. V10 engine, no less – blows the clapped-out little red banger off the road. Not until the end of the following decade would Gaston’s Fiat 509 embody the virtues of travelling at a more sedate pace.
