This dates from a time when Stephen Colman had already completed his highly graphic albums “White le Choc” and “Radical Café”, which were published by Magic Strip. Champaka caught a glimpse of a drawing that Colman had made for his own sheer pleasure, without any commercial impulse. We asked him to identify for us the thoughts, ideas and associations that the drawing evoked in him, and he was very forthcoming: “open spaces, speed, a blend of mechanics and science-fiction, as always; the solitude of the central subject, which is a common element in my work as an artist and painter”.
