Alain De Kuyssche, who at the time was the editor of “Spirou”, can remember the moment when he received the first strips of Chaland’s “Spirou et Fantasio.” “He brought me the plates for a Spirou whom Jijé had clearly abandoned in an increasingly robotized world. It was brilliant, funny, nostalgic yet modern, referential yet surprising; everything that Spirou and Fantasio should have continued to be.” Chaland’s robot entered into legend alongside “Radar”, Franquin’s robotic creation.
