When Champaka decided to propose to Christophe Blain that he create a portfolio of unpublished work, the objective was already clear: to showcase the sketches of the artist behind “Isaac le pirate”, show a spontaneity reminiscent of Gus Bofa and, most importantly, take pleasure in it… The artist threw himself into the breach with gusto. “I’m very interested in the artists of the 19th century; I love painting; but more particularly, I’m always moved by the sight of painters’ notebooks, their preparatory studies, the drawings. I love everything that touches on drawing: the pencil-stroke, the pen, the sketch; I love that school of painting that spanned the late nineteenth and early 20th centuries. That completely fascinates me.”
