La fiesta de los Muertos

La fiesta de los Muertos

In 1989, Philippe Berthet was best known for “Le privé d’Hollywood.” Not wanting to be confined to a particular series, he took on “La dame d’épée”, a scenario by Dominique David that is set in Mexico. Champaka, which has followed his work from the beginning, requested an image inspired by this atmospheric story, redolent of the magic of Central America. On this occasion, Berthet departs from the realist style of ligne claire that had made his reputation. “This break with style comes, obviously, from the choice of technique” says the creator of “Pin Up.” “A poster commission such as that is also an opportunity for research and experience. I suppose that at the time, I had a desire to create an image that had a more pictorial aspect, and these Mayan murals inspired me to use oil pastels.”
