L'atelier du peintre

Berthet is a formidable warrior in the world of bande dessinée. His last book, “Halona” (Aire Libre/Dupuis) demonstrates his capacity for creative reinvention. In that work, he was both author and illustrator, a creative development that was necessary and in which Berthet has succeeded admirably. More than that, he has set out to create a screenprint that takes him off the well-worn path of the nostalgic image (“Privé d’Hollywood”…). In “L’atelier du peintre” (the artist’s studio) he successfully incorporates areas of full tone (typical of silkscreen print) and areas of texture (a surprise effect: the artist’s canvases). The finished work resounds like a thunderclap in the somnolent world of BD imagery!
