Philippe Berthet has long been fascinated by the image of America fostered in the golden era of Hollywood films spanning the period from the ’thirties to the ’fifties. If the images of the “Pin Up” series are rooted in the ’forties and ’fifties, the investigations of the “Privé d’Hollywood” are plainly set in ’thirties Los Angeles. “Amerika” is the first luxury edition dedicated to Berthet’s work; he presents his plates in a format very similar to the original, and he has created four new illustrations – one for the cover and three included in an unbound format that can be mounted separately.
