Champaka’s guiding intention, on the launch of a collection of prints dedicated to the city of Paris, was that each image would convey a personal vision of the city, far removed from the clichéd “post-card” images of the city of light. François Avril, like Loustal before him (who inaugurated the collection with “un dimanche à Paris”), is a Parisian at heart. As a knowing an affectionate insider, Avril uncovers the city’s intimate secrets; here, he conveys the feverish activity of the Sentier quarter.
